The Journey of Mithila’s Superfood: From Pond to Pack

In the heartland of Mithila, where traditions breathe through every field and pond, the story of Makhana begins. For generations, the people of this culturally rich region have practiced the art of cultivating Makhana—a superfood revered for its health benefits and spiritual purity. The journey starts in the tranquil ponds, where farmers, knee-deep in water, carefully gather the lotus seeds during early morning hours. These seeds are then transported for cleaning and sun-drying, preserving their freshness and purity in natural sunlight.

Next comes the roasting stage, where the dried seeds are slow-roasted in traditional earthen pots, a process that requires immense skill and timing. As the seeds pop open, they reveal the white, fluffy Makhana we all know and love.

Once roasted, they go through rigorous grading and sorting, where only the finest quality pieces are handpicked. Each batch is then carefully packaged, ready to be shipped across India and over 30 countries worldwide.
